BOTU - BOLORTUVSHIN JARGALSAIKHAN
Born in 1982, Bolortuvshin is the first Mongolian female artist to present Mongolia at La Biennale di Venezia. She grew up in small town in the western part of Mongolia and obtained her education in the College of Fine Arts of Mongolia, attending class of scenography in 1999-2003. Right after graduation she started working in State Drama Theater of Mongolia and worked on stage set of 6 important spectacles, which played important role in her later performance works. She quitted her scenography career in 2007 and became freelance artist. Her works include paintings, sculptures and performances. In 2012, Bolortuvshin was invited to take part of 9th Shanghai International Art Biennale. Her performances are often emotional and provocative; reflects her concern on environmental pollutions. She is recipient of grants from Mongolian Contemporary Art Support Association (MCASA), Swiss Agency for International Development, Arts Council of Mongolia and Prince Claus Fund.
